Have you ever wondered what else you can do with all of those full page images that now come in the 12x12 paper pads?  Make gift bags!

I have been working on using up the Hope and Faith pad by Craftsmart and it included over 6 full page images!  While I am a scrapbooker, some of these larger images were too pretty to be covered up on a 12x12 scrapbook page.  So, I did some research on making gift bags.  I wanted to preserve the full image for the front of the bag, so I wanted to make the sides of the bag seperately.  Thanks to Sam at Mixed Up Craft and her video, I got an idea of how I wanted to make mine.

Here are the dimensions I used to make my bags using 12x12 patterned paper.  I also have dimensions for a bag using 6x8 inch paper as well.  You can see the full instructions and process in my video below.

12x12 Inch Bags

For the 12x12 inch bags you will need:

  • 2-12x12 inch pieces of patterned cardstock (front and back of bag)
  • 2-8x12 inch pieces of patterned cardstock (sides)
  • 1-8x12 inch piece of patterned cardstock (bottom)
  • 2-2x6 inch pieces of cardstock (for braces inside the bag)
Scoring:
  1. Decide which 12x12 inch piece you want to be the front of your bag and set it aside
  2. Score the back piece at 3 inches up from the bottom
  3. Score the side pieces at 1 inch in from each side
  4. Turn the side pieces and score at 3 inches up from the bottom.
  5. Turn your side pieces back to the original position and score at 4 inches from the top down to the 3 inch score mark.
  6. On the side pieces, score from the intersection of the 4 inch vertical score mark and the 3 inch horizontal score mark out to each 1 inch score mark at the corner. This creates the creases so that the bottom of the bag will fold up).
  7. For the bottom piece, score 1 inch in from each side.
  8. Score the brace pieces down the middle horizontally.

6x8 Inch Bags

For the 6x8 inch bags you will need:

  • 2-6x8 inch pieces of patterned cardstock (front and back of bag)
  • 2-4x8 inch pieces of patterned cardstock (sides)
  • 1-4x6 inch piece of patterned cardstock (bottom)
  • 2-2x2 inch pieces of cardstock (for braces inside the bag)

Scoring:

  1. Decide which 6x8 inch piece you want to be the front of your bag and set it aside
  2. Score the back piece at 2 inches up from the bottom
  3. Score the side pieces at 1 inch in from each side
  4. Turn the side pieces and score at 2 inches up from the bottom.
  5. Turn your side pieces back to the original position and score at 2 inches from the top down to the 2 inch score mark.
  6. On the side pieces, score from the intersection of the 2 inch vertical score mark and the 2 inch horizontal score mark out to each 1 inch score mark at the corner. This creates the creases so that the bottom of the bag will fold up).
  7. For the bottom piece, score 1 inch in from each side.
  8. Score the brace pieces down the middle horizontally.
